How to convert SVG to GIF

  1. Choose a supported SVG file and review its safe original preview.
  2. Set dimensions, resolution, background and quality where available.
  3. Select Convert to GIF, compare the result, and download the new file.

This process is rasterization: the renderer translates vector paths, fills, gradients and text into pixels at your requested output size. The SVG is sanitized before it reaches the preview or renderer, and the source remains unchanged on your device. A higher multiplier creates more pixels for high-density screens or printing, but it also increases memory use and file size.

Rendering SVG artwork as a GIF

GIF remains useful when a forum, email template, legacy content system or older application accepts GIF but not newer formats. Flat logos, icons and badges with a limited set of colours usually render cleanly, because GIF stores up to 256 colours per image. Fully transparent areas can stay transparent, which helps artwork sit over different page backgrounds.

Smooth gradients, soft shadows and anti-aliased edges are the weak points. GIF has no partial transparency, so semi-transparent pixels become fully opaque or fully transparent, and gradients can show banding. Export at the size the artwork will actually appear, keep the SVG as the master file, and choose PNG or WebP when the destination supports them.

Settings that affect the result

Width and height define the artwork's pixel proportions before the resolution multiplier is applied. Keep the aspect-ratio lock enabled to avoid stretching. The background setting is particularly important for JPG because that format has no alpha channel; PNG, WebP and AVIF can retain transparent areas when no opaque background is required.

Quality changes the encoding of GIF output where that format supports a quality setting. It doesn't change the geometry of the SVG. Fine lines can look soft when exported at a very small size, so choose dimensions close to the size where the image will actually appear. Fonts must be available to the server or the renderer may use a substitute.

When this conversion is useful

Design Handoff

Prepare artwork for a browser, layout, presentation or design application that expects GIF files.

Publishing

Create a format suited to websites, documents, product listings or downloadable resources.

Compatibility

Make an asset easier to open in the software used by a colleague, client or production partner.

GIF is supported almost everywhere, including older email clients and forums, but it is limited to 256 colours and keeps only fully transparent areas.

Quality, privacy and honest limitations

Keep the original file until you have opened and inspected the download. Conversion can preserve supported visual features, but it cannot restore missing detail or guarantee identical rendering in every application. Extremely complex source files may be rejected to protect service stability. The tool limits upload size, output pixels, XML nodes and path complexity.

On the production website, HTTPS protects the upload in transit. Processing is limited to the requested conversion. Avoid uploading confidential or regulated artwork when your organisation requires an approved offline workflow. Sanitization deliberately blocks scripts, event attributes, external references, foreign objects, XML entities and unsafe CSS references.

Yes. Set width, height and a one to four times resolution multiplier.

PNG, WebP and AVIF can preserve transparency. GIF keeps fully transparent areas only. JPG uses the selected background colour.

A missing source font may be substituted during rendering.

Supported gradients, paths, clipping paths and masks are rendered, while unusual browser-specific effects can differ.

No. The converter creates a separate raster download.
