This process is vector tracing. The converter groups visible pixels, finds their boundaries and writes those boundaries as real SVG paths. It never hides the original bitmap inside an SVG image element. That makes the result scalable and editable, although tracing cannot reconstruct the designer's original layers, fonts or mathematically perfect shapes.

Tracing modern AVIF source images

AVIF is designed for efficient pixel imagery, not for storing original vector structure. Tracing therefore interprets the decoded appearance and builds new paths from visible colour regions. Simple emblems, badges and line art can translate well; highly detailed AVIF photographs may generate thousands of shapes without becoming meaningfully easier to edit.

Begin with a restrained colour count and medium detail. Add colours only when an important area merges with its neighbour, and raise noise removal when texture creates scattered fragments. Some applications have limited AVIF import support but excellent SVG support, so tracing can help with simple artwork. For photographs, converting to PNG or JPG is normally a more faithful compatibility workflow than vectorization.

Settings that affect the result

The colour count controls how many palette groups the tracer can use. More colours can describe shaded artwork but usually create more paths. Detail retains more boundary points, while simplification reduces points for easier editing. Smoothing suppresses isolated edge variations, and noise removal ignores very small regions that would otherwise become tiny shapes.

Black-and-white mode is useful for signatures, stamps and line drawings. Colour mode suits flat logos, icons and illustrations. Simple background removal compares pixels with the colour in the image's top-left corner; it is convenient for plain backdrops, not a substitute for careful masking around hair, glass or complex scenery.
